Boscastle 16/8/2004
On Monday 16 August 2004 a storm threw three weeks of rain in just one day above the picturesque village of Boscastle in Cornwall. The deluge generated a raging torrent in the hills above, which was funneled down the surrounding valleys directly into the settlement, busy with tourists and villagers.
The 2004 Boscastle flood was broadcast on live television as it happened, with dramatic news footage showing people clinging to roofs and helicopters conducting rescues.
